House Majority Leader defends Bachmann (sort of)

After John McCain’s Senate floor rant in defense of Huma Abedin, Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) was asked to chime in and essentially defended Abedin as well. He has been taking a lot of heat from those who have the cold, hard facts. Perhaps that has something to do with why House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) offered a much more measured response to a similar question.

Via POLITICO:

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) Friday defended Rep. Michele Bachmann’s questioning of a top Hillary Clinton aide’s loyalty to the United States, saying the Minnesota lawmaker’s “concern was about the security of the country.”

Asked by CBS host Charlie Rose whether Bachmann was “out of line,” Cantor declined to criticize the congresswoman.

“I think that if you read some of the reports that have covered the story, I think that her concern was about the security of the country. So it’s about all I know,” the House’s No. 2 Republican told CBS’s “This Morning.”

Cantor’s comments are in stark contrast to Speaker John Boehner’s swift and strong denunciations of Bachmann’s conduct.

This response from Cantor comes a little more than a week after Boehner stepped in it by calling Bachmann’s comments “dangerous” while also saying that Huma Abedin had “sterling character.” Though Cantor’s response isn’t what you would call forceful, it’s out of character for him to break ranks with Boehner on something this charged. It’s also a testament to the irrefutable evidence that is validating Bachmann’s concerns.
