CNN’s Wolf Blitzer vigorously defends Huma Abedin in interview with Newt Gingrich

Wolf Blitzer, perhaps the most prominent anchor at CNN – the network that attempted to smear Walid as a ‘fraud’ – conducted an interview with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; the subject of Huma Abedin was discussed. Blitzer was nearly apoplectic when discussing the interest of Rep. Michele Bachmann, et. al. in the background of Hillary Clinton’s closest advisor.

Blitzer not only came to Huma’s defense but tipped his hand about his bias, without offering a full disclosure. Before coming to Abedin’s defense, Blitzer said – almost in passing – that he knows her “rather well”. We know CNN is biased but isn’t Blitzer supposed to at least portray a modicum of objectivity?

The CNN anchor then asserted that the questions being raised about Huma are because she is “Muslim”, which clearly agitated Gingrich, who called the charge “bologna”. Then, without looking at or even acknowledging the facts, Blitzer simply says:

“she (Huma) is not part of a Muslim Brotherhood conspiracy… that’s ridiculous to even put her, to raise her name like that.”

Toward the end of the clip, Blitzer refers to Abedin as a “wonderful American patriot” before making an obscure reference to accusations that she may be a spy because “a distant relative” may have done something… (then he trails off).

Blitzer clearly doesn’t want to look at the facts, which Andrew McCarthy outlined about six hours prior to the interview with Gingrich; McCarthy’s argument is unimpeachable, which makes Blitzer look foolish and quite biased.

If you haven’t seen the McCarthy press conference, you can WATCH IT HERE (begin viewing at the 29:34 mark).

In short, getting a position like the one held by Abedin requires a thorough background check. Abedin should have filled out a Form 86. Getting a security clearance, as McCarthy points out, is a privilege, not a right and Abedin’s relationships should have disqualified her. As for Blitzer’s ‘distant relative’ comment, there’s a reason he had nowhere to go; there’s not a ‘distant relative’ involved; it’s practically all immediate family.

Huma Abedin served on the Board (for 12 years) of an Institute founded by an Al-Qaeda financier named Abdullah Omar Nasseef; the two served on the Board jointly for at least 7 years. Every member of Huma’s immediate family either served on or continues to serve on that Board.

So how well does Blitzer know Huma Abedin?
