Keith Ellison’s latest attempt at Islamophobia-baiting

Perhaps the most prescient statement from Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) in the video clip below comes at the end, where he says that those who attempt to divide the United States along religious lines “will fail eventually”. The truth is that dividing America along religious lines is exactly what Muslim groups in America seek to do. The Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMMA) has that as a stated goal. The Institute’s objectives include turning the United States into a Muslim minority nation; if that’s not an attempt to divide along religious lines, what is?

Nonetheless, Ellison played the victim at the Democratic National Convention when asked about claims that Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim.

Via CNS News:

“It, of course, has been said that the president is a Muslim. In fact, it’s not so much said as it’s made as an accusation, as if it’s something to be ashamed of or wrong,” Ellison said.

“We think that there’s nothing wrong with being a Muslim at all, and in fact, I don’t think I can improve on what [former Secretary of State] Colin Powell said about it, which is … when President Obama was elected the first time, he endorsed him, and he said, the question is not whether or not Obama is a Muslim – he’s a Christian, and he is one, but there’s nothing wrong with being a Muslim,” he said.

“And as Sister Hussein already pointed out correctly, the blood of Muslim Americans has been spilled in defense of this nation as well. And we are part of this nation, claim our heritage and piece of America proudly,” Ellison said.

Of course, what people like Ellison always seem to avoid is the intentions / efforts of various Muslim groups. Instead of focusing on “Muslims” or “Islam”, the terms of the debate should shift to groups like the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim Students Association (MSA), etc. When the discussion turns to the intentions of those groups, so does the issue of discrimination.

As Muslim Brotherhood-connected groups, it is THOSE entities who should be put on the spot relative to THEIR racist tendencies. The spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood – Yusuf al-Qaradawi – an umbrella for groups like CAIR, ISNA, MSA, etc. makes anti-Semites blush.

No one ever seems to ask Ellison about these entities and individuals. Instead, they let him play the victim card.
