John McCain asked to explain defense of Huma Abedin; responds with a lie

While campaigning in Florida with the Veterans for Romney, Senator John McCain was interviewed by Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. One of the questions had to do with why he defended Huma Abedin and railed against Rep. Michele Bachmann on the Senate floor.

Not only was his answer disgraceful but it was demonstrably false (that means it was a lie).

Via TCPalm:

Q: You spoke on the Senate floor against a letter from Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., that asked for an investigation into the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence in the federal government. The letter, also signed by Tequesta Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, specifically targeted Huma Abedin, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s deputy chief of staff. Explain why you spoke out on this.

A: I don’t know if it was intentional or not, they said (Abedin) needed to be investigated because her father who had been dead for a long time had been associated with Muslim Brotherhood. I knew her, know her and have known her very well. There’s no connections there, and you don’t want to mention people. I think they realize it was a mistake by throwing her name in. Now, I’m concerned, and they’re concerned and I agree with them, about the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood. I’m not saying all members of the Muslim Brotherhood are extremists, but I am saying there are some extremists that are members of the Muslim Brotherhood. … There is definitely a threat of radical Muslim extremism, some of whom are Muslim Brotherhood — not all, by far.

Regular readers to this site know that saying Huma Abedin is connected to the Muslim Brotherhood solely because her now deceased father was associated with the Brotherhood is despicable and intentionally misleading on McCain’s part.

He then issues a bald-faced lie when he says “There’s no connections there…”

Really?! How come no mention of Huma’s mother Saleha Abedin, Senator? She’s a leader with the Muslim Sisterhood and is a close colleague of Egypt’s new first lady.

How come no mention of her brother Hassan Abedin, Senator? He’s been a fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) with an al-Qaeda financier Abdullah Omar Naseef and Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Huma herself served on the board of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMMA) with her mother, brother, and sister Heba Abedin (Khalid) for more than a decade. IMMA was founded by Naseef.

How come no mention of Huma’s time on the Executive Board of the George Washington University Muslim Students Association?

Huma Abedin’s connections to the Muslim Brotherhood are OVERWHELMING and for McCain to lie like this, especially in light of how critical he’s been of the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attack, is mind-numbing to consider.

There comes a point at which incompetence is so egregious, it’s on par with lying.

McCain has reached that point.
