Karl Rove siding with Muslim Brotherhood in Syria

By Ben Barrack

In a letter to President Barack Obama, former George W. Bush adviser and painfully ubiquitous media pundit Karl Rove is one of seventy-four signatories who are calling for a bombing campaign against the Assad regime in Syria. Based on how politically connected Rove is now and how much access he had to intelligence for eight years under Bush, it’s simply not believable that he doesn’t know who he is supporting – the same bunch that hit us on 9/11/01 and 9/11/12.

Rove: Supports Muslim Brotherhood in Syria

Rove: Supports Muslim Brotherhood in Syria

Here is an excerpt from the letter (h/t USA Survival):

We urge you to respond decisively by imposing meaningful consequences on the Assad regime. At a minimum, the United States, along with willing allies and partners, should use standoff weapons and airpower to target the Syrian dictatorship’s military units that were involved in the recent large-scale use of chemical weapons. It should also provide vetted moderate elements of Syria’s armed opposition with the military support required to identify and strike regime units armed with chemical weapons.

Vetted moderate elements? How’s that been working out in every other country across North Africa and the Middle East? In Libya, John McCain will proudly proclaim that moderates were elected. What he won’t tell you is that the Brotherhood elements are in control. The attack in Benghazi probably would not have happened if not for the ouster of Gadhafi.

Rove’s support for the Brotherhood may have more to do with his former boss’s ties to Saudi Arabia than anything else. Consider the recent report by AP writer Dale Gavlak that was published at MintPress News. Here is what may be a relevant excerpt:

“…from numerous interviews with doctors, Ghouta residents, rebel fighters and their families… Many believe that certain rebels received chemical weapons via the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, and were responsible for carrying out the dealing gas attack.”

Gavlak then quoted a witness to the attack:

“They didn’t tell us what these arms were or how to use them,” complained a female fighter named ‘K.’ “We didn’t know they were chemical weapons. We never imagined they were chemical weapons.”

“When Saudi Prince Bandar gives such weapons to people, he must give them to those who know how to handle and use them,” she warned.

Let’s go back to a November 12, 2001 article by Franklin Foer at the New Republic, entitled “Fevered Pitch”. A major portion of the article deals with a September 26th meeting with prominent Muslim Brotherhood leaders weeks earlier at the White House. Rove was present at that meeting. Check out what Foer revealed:

To the president’s left sat Dr. Yahya Basha, president of the American Muslim Council, an organization whose leaders have repeatedly called Hamas “freedom fighters.” Also in attendance was Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, who on the afternoon of September 11 told a Los Angeles public radio audience that “we should put the State of Israel on the suspect list.” And sitting right next to President Bush was Muzammil Siddiqi, president of the Islamic Society of North America, who last fall told a Washington crowd chanting pro-Hezbollah slogans, “America has to learn if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come.” Days later, after a conservative activist confronted Karl Rove with dossiers about some of Bush’s new friends, Rove replied, according to the activist, “I wish I had known before the event took place.”

He didn’t know? Really?

What’s Rove’s excuse today? Does he still not know who the Muslim Brotherhood is?

Let’s go back to Prince Bandar and a photo taken at the White House just two days after 9/11/01, via History Commons:

Bandar meets with Bush on 9/13/01.

Is Rove simply tied too closely to the Saudis? Do any of the reasons he won’t go away (Fox News contributor, picking Republican Presidential nominees via American Crossroads PAC, and Wall Street Journal columnist) have to do with securing Bush’s legacy more than securing the country?

Speaking of the Fox News Channel, if there were two people who looked foolish on election night 2012, they were Dick Morris and Rove; both confidently predicted a Romney victory. Rove’s performance when Ohio was called for Obama was reminiscent of Mortimer from Trading Places when the latter lost everything in one day of trading. Rove’s petulant denial of reality prompted Megyn Kelly to walk across the entire building on live television to get a retort from the vote counters who were ultimately proven right:

Here is Mortimer having a similar meltdown:

On election night, Morris and Rove both looked foolish when their predictions fell woefully short but consequences for each were quite different. Morris was jettisoned from Fox while Rove has remained on, despite being given significant time away from the camera for several weeks. Today, he’s back as he was before. Morris? Gone.

Go figure, today, in my inbox was a Dick Morris lunch alert video. In it, he explains that supporting the rebels in Syria means supporting the Muslim Brotherhood / Al-Qaeda. Conversely, Rove wants to do just that.

So why weren’t both men jettisoned from Fox News? Perhaps it has something to do with another Saudi Prince – Alwaleed bin Talal. He is the second largest shareholder of Newscorp.
