Hamid Aboutalebi was an accessory to the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979. Iranian president Hasan Rouhani recently appointed him as Ambassador to the United Nations, which is headquartered in the U.S. However, Aboutalebi is not the first known Iranian terrorist to be allowed into the U.S. in the name of diplomacy. In 2011, a man implicated in several terrorist acts, including the 1996 Khobar Towers attack, was given the red carpet treatment by the Obama White House.
At about that same time, a federal judge found the same Iranian government for which Aboutalebi represents, culpable in the 9/11 attacks. Former 9/11 Commission counsel Janice Kephart reported on this case extensively.

Yesterday, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced a bill that would prevent Aboutalebi – and any known terrorists – from obtaining a visa for entry into the U.S. Throughout the course of Barack Obama’s presidency, Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has blocked any legislation that would run counter to the president’s agenda or be uncomfortable for him.
In his speech on the Senate floor, Cruz expressed a belief that he thinks this bill can get bipartisan support and eventually make it to Barack Obama’s desk. Should the president veto such a bill, it would speak volumes.
This is not the first Iranian terrorist the Obama administration will have allowed entry into the U.S. in the name of diplomacy. In December of 2011, Hadi al-Ameri, who at the time was Iraq’s Minister of Transportation received the red carpet treatment from the Obama White House. As Shoebat.com reported then, al-Ameri’s connections to terrorism and brutality are practically unmatched. He was also implicated in the 1996 Khobar Towers terrorist attack in 1996, which Cruz ironically mentions in his floor speech.

In the video of Cruz’s Senate floor speech to pass his bill, he used an example of the Taliban sending Osama bin Laden as its ambassador to the U.N. That may seem like a stretch but it’s really not. In fact, at about the time al-Ameri was welcomed into the Obama White House, a Federal District Court Judge signed a 53-page document in a case known as Havlish v. Iran that contained 276 Statements of Fact and 35 Conclusions of Law which established that the 9/11/01 attacks were the result of an Iran-Hezbollah-al Qaeda” alliance.

If, as the judge in Havlish found, the Iranian government was involved in the 9/11 attacks, Aboutalebi isn’t just an accomplice in the hostage crisis but he represents a government that was involved in the worst attack on American soil.
