Something the Obama administration may not have counted on when hamstringing the Nigerian government’s efforts to combat Boko Haram is vigilante justice. Villagers not much interested in political games have reached their breaking points:
Villagers in an area of Nigeria where Boko Haram operates have killed and detained scores of the extremist Islamic militants who were suspected of planning a fresh attack, the residents and a security official said.
Locals in Nigeria’s northern states have been forming vigilante groups in various areas to resist the militant group that is holding more than 270 schoolgirls captive.
In Kalabalge, a village about 250 kilometres from the Borno state capital of Maiduguri, residents said they were taking matters into their own hands because the Nigerian military is not doing enough to stem Boko Haram attacks.
When it comes to Boko Haram, the terror group has allies in the White House. This is clearly demonstrated when examining Barack Obama’s belief about how to best combat terrorism in Nigeria.
As Shoebat.com reported, Obama expressed this view during a trip to Nigeria last year, when he said:
“It is my strong belief that terrorism is more likely to emerge and take root where countries are not delivering for their people and where their sources of conflict and underlying frustrations that have not been adequately dealt with.”
This is clearly a message to Boko Haram that future terror attacks will be rewarded by the Obama administration leaning on the government of Nigeria to ‘deliver’ for the terrorists. As a consequence, the Nigerian people who have no one to defend them, are defending themselves. It is believed that the administration’s policy with respect to Nigeria is largely responsible for the government not doing more.
Here is Obama in Nigeria last year, blaming the Nigerian government for the terrorism created by Boko Haram. The message is that by fighting terrorists, you create more of them. In reality, the opposite is true:
